Artisomen "Art" Chilakos

Aristomen “Art” Chilakos, age 83, of Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA, died on October 2, 2024. He was originally a resident of Highland Park, NJ, and formerly lived in Ewing, Pennington, Lambertville and Long Beach Island, NJ. He was the son of Anastasia and Louis Chilakos of Highland Park, NJ (both deceased). After eight years of dating from the ages of thirteen and sixteen, Art has been married to Barbara Oram Chilakos for 59 years. He is survived by his brother, Demetrius and Kathy Chilakos Zurawlow, a beloved former sister-in-law, their daughter, Kelly Chilakos and her daughters, along with their son, Greg Chilakos and his children. and Art’s brother, George Chilakos and his wife, Linda. Art is also survived by his brother-in-law, George Oram, his wife Cheryl, and their children and grandchildren. Art had many cherished friends, colleagues, students, and was very close to the caregivers in Woolman Full Care at Pennswood Village.

Art graduated from Highland Park High School in 1958, Trenton State College in 1964, and Temple University, where he completed his Masters in 1965 and PHD in 1977. While teaching full time at TSC, Art commuted three nights a week and full time summers for eight years to obtain his doctorate at Temple. He taught at Grice Junior High School in Hamilton Township for one year and was then employed by The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College) rising to Full Professor in the Health & Physical Education Department that later became the Health & Exercise Science Department from 1967 to June 2011. He loved teaching Anatomy and Kinesiology to health and physical education, exercise science, and nursing students. Art was an assistant baseball coach at TSC and taught tennis at Pine Brae Swim Club in the Princeton area. He enjoyed playing tennis for many years and watching football and tennis on television. Art served in the NJ National Guard for six years. 

There will be no funeral service held and cremation will be private. If desired, memorial contributions can be sent to The Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ, or to North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, NY, in honor of the many years of joy and unconditional love provided by beloved pets.
