Barbara Hayes Ballard, age 76, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Chestnut Hill Hospital. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Barbara lived a life defined by dedication, warmth, and an unmistakable sense of style.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” -Psalm 147:3
Barbara built a long and successful career in Human Resources at the University of Pennsylvania and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was respected for her professionalism and commitment to her job. She later transitioned into a career in recruitment within the banking industry, continuing to make meaningful connections and guided others in their professional journeys.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” -Psalms 3:5-6
Beyond her career, Barbara was known for her vibrant personality. She had an incredible sense of humor and a laugh that brought joy to those around her. She loved shopping and was admired for her impeccable fashion sense, always presenting herself with elegance and flair. Barbara aka Bootz, Barbs, Sunshine, or Momma Ballard, had a deep passion for Christ, fellowship, traveling, family, and living a healthy lifestyle. She captured her experiences through photography, preserving memories that reflected her curiosity, creativity, and love of life.

She was a devoted mother and is survived by her two children, Bretagne and Joshua Ballard and her former spouse, Howard Ballard. She is also survived by her siblings, Arnez Hayes and Paris Hayes; as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will remember her with love, passion, spark, and grit.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Shields Hayes and Robert Hayes, and her younger brothers, Barry Hayes and Gregory Hayes.
Barbara will be remembered for her laughter, her strength, her sense of style, and the love she shared so generously with family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created and the lives she touched.

Barbara asked that you celebrate her with the same joy and fondness that she lived her life. There will be no funeral service at this time; however, online condolences and contributions may be shared.
