Bernard W. Corlies, Jr., age 57, of Philadelphia, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 after a swift, devastating battle with Bone Cancer.
Bernie was born, August 28, 1962 at Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia…… the same facility that he passed away in while he was being cared for at the Vitas Inpatient Hospice at Nazareth Hospital.
His mother, Kathleen Corlies, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: sister, Debbie Varallo of Levittown, PA, brother, Jim Fox of Ellijay, GA, and Lois Fox of Naples, FL. Also surviving Bernie is Claudia Dominguez and her son, David Vocht.
Surviving nieces and nephews include Debbie’s children: Michael (Kelly), Brian (Jenna) and Dawn (Jeff), Jimmy and Pam’s children: Joshua and Michael (Erica) and Lois’ children: Billy and Lauren (Drew). Every one of Bernie’s nieces and nephews, as well as their children, loved “Uncle Bernie†(or “Banooch†or just plain “Noochâ€) ‘s guts.
Bernie was a 1982 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. Bernie had decided to drop out of High School earlier, until his mother put an EMPTY picture frame up on the family Hutch, next to the High School graduation portraits of his older brother and sisters. That empty picture frame convinced Bernie to go back to school and graduate. He left the school with a Diploma, a City of Philadelphia High School Football Championship Title (# 83 Defensive End) and an Individual Championship Title in Gymnastics (Rings) for the Rail Splitters.
Bernie was a retired Roofer, a member of United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local 30. Bernie has a large, extended family of friends that he loved dearly and they meant the world to him. Some of these friends he’s had since childhood. Others, he just met in the Hospital.
Bernie was one of a kind….. and kind to every one….. mostly. But, that’s another story.
The family is planning final arrangements around Social Distancing and Corona Virus guidelines with details to be announced at a later date on Bernie’s Facebook page.
In the meantime, raise a glass, toast his memory and tell a “Bernie†story.
Yo Nuts, bye, bye, see you later, bye.
Love ALWAYS n FOREVER xoxo ;0)/ jn LP 83
