Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Skinner (Nee Ohlinger)
Betty Skinner beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and former resident of Rydal, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on July 13th, 2026 at the age 98.
Born an only child in Hamilton, Ohio in 1928, Betty developed a lifelong love of horses and dogs that still impassions her family today.
Betty became the first in her extended family to graduate from nursing school becoming an RN and then practicing as an OR nurse for some years before retiring to become a full-time mother and housewife. Unable to have her own biological children, Betty and her devoted husband, Ralph, adopted two children, Stuart and Stacie.
After raising her children, Betty learned to fly the family aircraft, a Piper 180, and eventually became an instrument rated flight instructor. During her flight instruction career, Betty gave numerous commercial airline pilots their first flight instruction including a pilot who became a Blue Angel. Beyond her professional and family accomplishments, Betty enjoyed a few personal hobbies. She owned and rode her motorcycle, and she liked snorkeling in warm waters with manatees.
In her later years, Betty maintained a small group of friends and enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty was also a fierce senior Bridge player. Bridge, friends, and family kept Betty’s mind sharp and her love strong until the end.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of over 60 years, Ralph. Betty is survived by her two children: Stuart and Stacie; their spouses: Karen and Paul; her eight grandchildren: Jason, Josh, Sara, Nicole,Danielle, Megan, Emily and Ryan; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Owen, Ethan, Bianca, Elijah, Bartholomew, Ava, Grace, Jack, Margaret, William, Wyatt, Rory, and Dylan.
To celebrate Betty’s life, a funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 in the Chapel at St. Joseph Manor (1616 Huntingdon Pike, Meadowbrook, PA 19046). Visitation 9:30 to 10:30 with Mass to follow.
