Bill Gooden, 60 years old of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully on December 1st, 2024.
Born November 19th, 1964, in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Bill, better known to close family and friends as Butch, grew up in the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia. Bill went from St John Cantius to Central High School (241) to earn an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from Drexel University. He had an incredibly successful career in information technology for Fortune 500 companies, including DuPont and Biogen, and several smaller companies throughout his career.
Anyone who knew Butch knew he was one of the most practical and logical people you ever met. Engineering was a perfect career for him. He was a big fan of folks like Henry Rollins and Bill Maher and was always willing to challenge the status quo. Anyone who tried to argue with him learned that quickly. He was not one to suffer fools and would always tell it like he saw it. Whether you liked it or not, you always knew where you stood with Butch.
Bill was a beloved father, Husband, Brother, and Son. He is survived by his wife Patricia; daughters Valerie, Lillian, and Angela; Mother Anita; Sisters Dawn Gooden-Smith and Peggy Wilkers; brother-in-law John Wilkers and quasi-little brother Tony DeSanctis; and Nieces Erin, Molly, and Bridget and nephew John Robert. He is Predeceased by his father, William H. Gooden, and Brother-In-Law Mark Smith.
Bill was the consummate girl dad. He spent most of his free time ensuring his girls had the best of everything and taught them how to be their own people and critical thinkers.
Bill was a diehard Eagles fan who consistently stood by his team in good times, and bad. 2017 was the pinnacle for him, and here’s hoping they can do it again in his honor this year.
Bill’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19136. A service for Bill will begin at 1:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to wear Eagles gear to celebrate his life and his favorite team.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Eagles Community Foundation, the charitable foundation of the Philadelphia Eagles.
