Carol Ann (Discavage) Higgins (63) passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Carol was born to Sara and William Discavage in Philadelphia. Carol is survived by her loving husband Robert, her children Christoper, Daniel, Sara (Frimet) and Julie (MacBride), grandchildren Bradley MacBride, Mark MacBride, Shannon MacBride and Oliver Frimet, her sisters Mary Ellen Cockerham and Sharon Marino, her brother Bill Discavage, brothers-in-law, Keith Cockerham and Gene Marino, sons-in-law Josh Frimet and Brian MacBride and many nieces and nephews. Carol was surrounded by so many friends and family who loved her during her never give up attitude, with this battle of cancer for over 24 years.
Carol grew up in Holland, Pa. She graduated from Council Rock High School and later Wilkes University with a bachelors in nursing. Carol then moved to NYC and worked on a busy Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering, she loved the excitement of the city. During a trip to Ireland, Carol was in a car accident and fractured her pelvis. Carol was told she would recover fully, that is unless she had twins. So of course Carol had twins years later! Carol worked at Nazareth Hospital for many years as an ICU RN, Nurse Manager and as a Patient Advocate. She truly cared about helping patients navigate health care’s challenging environment.
Carol was known for her warmth, outgoing personality, gift of gab, garage sales, practical jokes and love of her family. Carol loved playing cards, going to the beach, sitting on the porch watching birds (or squirrels) and vacationing with her family. Anyone who knew Carol, often saw her playing tennis ball catch or laser lights with “Bailey”, her Boston Terrier. Carol recently met her new grandson, Oliver, who gave her many smiles and happy memories in her last few months with us.
Please join Carol’s family on Monday, December 16, 2024 at St. Andrews Church 81 Swamp Rd, Newtown, Pa. 18940 at 10am for a viewing, followed by an 11am Mass.
