Cheryl Dwyer Whiting passed peacefully on January 29, 2026 in Newtown, PA. Born on January 30, 1945 in Weymouth, MA to the late Warren and Marilyn Dwyer. She is survived by her son David (Tine) Whiting of Millbrook, NY and daughter Becki (Ryan) Harr of Dublin, OH as well as her four beloved grandchildren: Abigail Harr, JD Whiting, Walker Harr and Jake Whiting.
Known fondly to others as Cheryl, Mom, Cha Cha, Charlize and Grammy, the most treasured and sacred of all was Grammy. She was a fiercely devoted grandmother and each of her grandchildren knew that she was their biggest cheerleader – on the sidelines, in the audience, in their lives and always in their hearts. She shared in their joys, supported them through their challenges, immersed herself in any and all of their hobbies, interests and passions, guided them with wisdom and created memories that will last a lifetime.
To those who knew her best, Cheryl was a force of nature – immensely elegant, incredibly connected, beautifully stubborn, fiercely independent and wonderfully spirited. She was deeply loyal to those she loved. She had a rare gift for finding the connections: the shared story, the familiar name, the common thread that made everyone she met feel like family. Whether greeting lifelong friends or complete strangers, Cheryl welcomed all with her warm and willing smile. She made friends everywhere - while flying on a plane, shopping in a store or standing in a line…she was the epitome of an Irishwoman who could make friends anywhere and everywhere she went. Her warmth didn’t just bridge gaps; it erased them.
With a true passion for travel, Cheryl did not hesitate to “take the trip,” leading her on many great adventures around the world. She had a deep appreciation for the world, she was always eager to experience new places, cultures and memories. When she was home, she found comfort in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand and a talented knitter who lovingly created pieces for family, friends and even strangers. She was a skilled cook and baker, famously leaving out one or two ingredients when asked to share her signature recipes.
To know of Cheryl was a gift; to know her deeply was to love her. She was a treasure to all who crossed her path and her magnificent smile and extraordinary ability to connect with others will be deeply missed.
A Celebration Of Life is currently being planned for Saturday, March 14th. Details TBD and will be updated here.
