Dennis Melinson

Dennis Melinson, 54 years old, of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on October 12, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Dennis grew up playing baseball and soccer for the Mayfair Shamrocks. He attended Father Judge High School where he played soccer.

His two daughters gave him much joy through the years, and he enjoyed sharing in their interests of music, animals, and cooking.

He loved cooking for people and made the best breaded eggplant—it will never be matched. He also loved working in restaurants making his way up from busboy starting in his teen years to kitchen manager and chef. One of his favorite things was an in-season tomato on buttered toast with salt.

He was passionate about music—playing guitar and singing with friends and family. He was also the best creator of play lists. His “Basement Tapes” were an extraordinary gift to friends and family of music he shared with them over the years.

Den was generous, kind, and thoughtful. He was also a particularly good gift giver. He had a great sense of humor. His lyric-changing powers could give Weird Al a run for his money.

Dennis is survived by his two daughters, Larisa and Fiona; his siblings, Joanne Melinson (Sean) and John Melinson; and his niece Sarah Kelly (Benny). He is also survived by his uncles, aunts, and many cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Mary Stella and Stanley G. Melinson Jr. as well as his sister Eileen.

A private memorial was held. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help support his daughters’ education.
