Dennis Norman Walsh (74) of Melrose Park, PA passed away on Saturday, November 9th 2024 at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia PA. He was a beloved father of Stephanie and Steven Walsh.
Dennis was born on June 24, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Norman James Walsh and Catherine Mary (Snyder) Walsh. He was one of 5 children and was predeceased by his sister Christine (Chris) Walsh and his brother William (Billy) Walsh.
Dennis is survived by his children Stephanie and Steven Walsh and their partners, Matthew Hose and Marissa Wenglicki, his brother David Walsh, his sister Doris Walsh (O’Reilly) , his former wife Paula (Johnson) Walsh, his nieces Colleen O’Reilly (Creighton) and Erin O’Reilly, as well as his grandchildren Amalia Hose, Mira Hose, Zyelle Leonard and Shiloh Walsh.
Dennis was born in Philadelphia PA, lived briefly in Berlin NJ, before moving back and spending the majority of his adolescence in Northeast Philadelphia. He attended high school at Northeast High School on Cottman Avenue.
Dennis was a Vietnam era veteran who served in the US Navy from 1970-74. He was based out of San Diego. Part of his service was spent on the USS Anchorage, an LSD.
Dennis worked at Sears on the Boulevard. He held various jobs there over a period of 30 years, from high school until the plant closed
During his life, Dennis nurtured many different interests including Philadelphia sports. While the Phillies were his true love, he also enjoyed following the Eagles and Flyers. He also enjoyed following horse racing and attended multiple races everywhere from Saratoga Springs in New York, Churchill Downs in Kentucky, and the former Philadelphia Park (now Parx Casino).
Dennis was also an avid reader and spent much of his time at local book stores and the Elkins Park Library. Some of his favorite authors were John La Carré and Thomas Sewell.
Dennis will be remembered for his insatiable curiosity and the stories he loved telling to his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
