Dorothy "Dot" Himes

Dorothy (Dot) Himes, 89, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at home with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Mary Smyrl Reichert. Truly beautiful inside and out, both her appearance and spirit were radiant. Dot was a people person who loved to laugh, dance, celebrate, and make others feel special. She could light up a room with a smile or a kind comment. She kept a beautiful home and was a natural hostess who made hospitality look effortless. Prayer and faith got her through life's ups and downs. She chose grace over grudges.

Dot's life shaped generations — a loving mother, faithful friend, and joyful presence who brought people together. She carried the sorrow of losing her beloved son, Fran, with courage and faith, holding his memory close. She was a proud mother to Dotty Anne (Harry McGinnity) and Nancy Collier (Jim), a loving Gram to Melissa Higgins (Brian), Mandy Goldblum (Ryan), Kristen McKay (Jeff), Jeffrey Himes, and Jimmy Collier, and a loving Great-Grandmom to Morgan, Amber, Daxton, Ben, Elliot, and Ophelia. Her sister, Susan, along with daughter-in-law Pattie, brother-in-law John, many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, also celebrate her life and cherish her memory.

You are invited to visit with Dot's family from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at St. Cecelia's Church, 535 Rhawn St., Philadelphia. Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.

Dot showed us what it meant to hold loved ones close. Though we grieve her loss, we find comfort in knowing she now rests in heavenly peace.
