Dorothy "Dottie" Knapp Burns

Dottie Knapp went to Cheltenham High School where she met and later married Bob Burns.

She received a full scholarship to Beaver College and earned a Bachelor in Business degree.

Together she and Bob had 3 children, Susan Land (VA), Robert Burns Jr. (PA) and Katie Murphy (PA) which they raised in Glenside, PA.

Dottie was active in St. Luke's Parish. She worked at Abington High School in the Science Department and then went back to college for a teaching degree. She briefly taught English at Upper Moreland High School. Still not satisfied with finding her calling, she acquired a masters degree in Early Childhood Education at Chestnut Hill College. She went on to a happy career as a Nursery School Administrator and teacher. She loved children and became a well known smiling face at St Paul’s Nursery School in Glenside.

After retiring, the Burns’ set off for warmer weather in OCNJ and Punta Gorda, FL and her final years were spent back in PA at Ann’s Choice in Warminster.

Dottie was a warm hostess in her home and took care to bring family together for Sunday dinners and every holiday. She loved playing golf with her son Bob and doubles tennis with her husband. She was a masters level Bridge player and was always actively working on a crossword puzzle and reading a library book.

In her 80’s she devoted years to volunteering at an elementary school and the local library in Florida.

Dottie was a kind and generous mother to 3, grandmother to 8, and great grandmother to 13.

Thank you to all those at Ann’s Choice that showed loving care and kindness to this gentle soul.
