Dorothy “Dott” Wyszynski nee Zabczynski, aged 90, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024.  Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Richard P. Wyszynski and her daughter Nancy Sansone (John). She is survived by her children Susan (Craig Peters), Kathy, and Dave (Kathy McMonagle) and grandchildren Jessica and Joseph Sansone and Paige and David Wyszynski.  Dorothy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews and friends. 

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Walter and Antionette Zabczynski, her brother Joe (Evelyn), her sister Val (Leonard Wesolowski) and her aunt and godmother Jennie Banaszak.

Dorothy was born on July 15, 1933 in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia.  She attended grade school at St. John Cantius and especially loved attending the all-girls Catholic Nazareth Academy High School (Class of ’51).

She and Richard met in grade school and married on November 19, 1955 at St. John Cantius Church.  They spent 67 wonderful years loving and caring for each other and their growing family.

Dorothy worked in administrative roles at Temple University in the Psychology Department, Chemistry Department and the Fels Institute of Cancer Research.  She retired from the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University. Throughout her over 40+ years of service at Temple and Jefferson, she was adored by many faculty and staff for her kindness and dedication to helping others.

Dorothy was active in community organizations including the Polish American Congress and Bridesburg Federal Credit Union where she served on the Credit Committee.  Additionally, she volunteered annually for the American Cancer Society (ACS) Daffodil Day and was recognized by the ACS with a volunteer achievement award. She was also a girl scout leader while her daughters were Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes.

She enjoyed traveling with Richard, spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.  She delighted in tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, which were the highlight of neighbors and friends on Sheffield St.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family at her viewing on Wed, April 24th from 6pm – 8pm at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA., and her visitation on Thurs, April 25th at St. Matthew RC Church 3300 Cottman Ave, Philadelphia, PA from 9:15am - 10:15am, followed by her funeral mass at 10:30am. Interment will immediately follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name to The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, c/o Development Office, 2755 Holme Ave, Philadelphia, PA.  19152 are appreciated.
