Edward “Ed” “Eddie” Taratuski, 86, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on April 25, 2026.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ed loved his city and chose to remain close to the friends and family who meant so much to him. He was described as “the nicest man I’ve ever met” by anyone who spent time with him—a title earned through a lifetime of generosity and kindness. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who put in more effort and energy than men half his age. He also spent many years caring selflessly for his wife, Eileen, and never wavered in his love or support for her.
Ed loved nature and had a special bond with animals. Birds would fly down to greet him, and neighborhood dogs would do a happy dance when they saw his car pull in. Sparrows tapped on the window near his chair to let “Snow White” know they were ready to be fed, and every squirrel within 5 miles seemed to know exactly where to find a neverending supply of peanuts. If you happens to be a person he liked, he’d offer you a Twizzler from his own stash. He had treats for everyone.
He also loved a good prank—never mean-spirited, just enough to make people laugh. If his wife were still here, she might have had a few things to say about the popsicle sticks and stickers she found in the most unexpected places, but we're sure she wouldn’t have changed a thing. Ed held onto a childlike sense of humor in the best possible way. At the same time, he was steady, hardworking, and someone you could always count on to do the right thing.
Ed is survived by his sister, Arlene; his daughters, Cheryl and Andrea; his grandchildren, Ariel, Nikos, and Jaidyn; his great-grandson, Lucian; and his absolutely spoiled cat, Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and William; his brothers, William and Robert; and his beloved wife, Eileen.
Please join the Taratuski family on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136, for a gathering of remembrance in honoring and celebrating Ed's life. A service for him will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by time for refreshments and food, until 6:00pm. Ed’s family will be accessible to receive the loving comfort of your condolences, remembrance, and support throughout the evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. Alternatively, spend some time in nature feeding the animals, put a sticker on a loved one when they’re not looking, or have a Twizzler for our Mr. Congeniality.
