Florence married her first husband, Robert Heh, in 1959 and divorced in 1969. As a single mother of five, she accepted help from her mother and siblings while also working in child care and housekeeping to provide for her family. In 1985 she married her second husband Clyde Pustay, they had two sons.
In 1973, Florence and Clyde left their home in the city of Pittsburgh to raise their seven children in Bartonsville, Pennsylvania. Florence worked as a nurse’s aide for a few years, before moving to retail and food service. Her work schedule, and her husband’s illness, created new responsibilities for the seven children. These responsibilities instilled the values of hard work and perseverance. Despite her long work hours Florence always had an open-door policy for anyone in need of a hot meal or place to stay. In 1991, Florence became widowed.
In 2001 Florence married her third husband Edward Smith, they lived in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania for several years before retiring to Kissimmee, Florida. In 2017 Florence became widowed for the second time.
Florence decided to move closer to her children, first living with her son Ron in Virginia before moving back to Pennsylvania to live with her daughter Kim. This decision allowed Florence the opportunity to renew her relationships with her children and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Florence’s favorite hobbies included bingo, reading, puzzles and crafting. She will be remembered fondly for her friendly personality, art of conversation, strong will, and love of family.
Florence was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. A private celebration of life will be held this spring.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Lung Cancer Research in Florence’s name.
