Geoffrey Laurie O’Flynn, Sr. (Coach) passed away on Friday March 18, 2022 at the age of 75. He was residing in Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Bridgewater Farms in Aston, PA for 33 years where he was a member and graduate of St. Barnabas Parish and originally from Southwest Philadelphia.
Geoffrey was born in Yorkshire, England on May 2, 1946 to the late Joseph and Irene (nee Stockley) O’Flynn and came to America in 1949.
Geoffrey was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from May 1963 to May 1966, a member of the American Legion Post 960 in Aston, PA and a member of the 11th Airbourne Association and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 67. After serving in the military, he worked for Boeing Aircraft, before starting his career with the Philadelphia Police Department on March 20th, 1967 in Class 183 (Badge #6466). A job he truly loved. While on duty in March 1970 he was shot multiple times which led to his retirement, he was awarded a Commendation of Valor for saving the life of his partner.
He loved the Phillies, being a season ticket holder, as well as a devoted fan of the Eagles. He was the past President of the Aston Valley Baseball League and a beloved coach for over 20 years and the former owner of Ballpark Beverages in Havertown, PA.
He was the beloved husband of the late Bonnie (nee Bailey) O’Flynn, loving father of Michael P. (Sherri) O’Flynn, Geoffrey L. (Denise) O’Flynn, Jr., Jacquelyn A. (Nick) O’Flynn, Renea Oropeza, Heather (James) Evans and the late Richard Oropeza, dear grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 8, brother of the late Kathleen Bruce, and uncle of Desiree and Raymond.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Geoffrey’s Memorial gathering 9 – 9:45 am on Monday April 11th, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3255 Concord Road, Aston, PA 19014, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 am. His Inurnment is Private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Aston Valley Baseball League, P.O. Box 2063, Aston, PA 19014-0063 would be appreciated by his family.
