George Adam Schmidt, age 93, peacefully passed away on Monday December 12, 2022 after a short period of decline in his health. He lived in the Villages of Flowers Mill in Langhorne, PA and is survived by his 4 children (and spouses) Leslie Adams, Claudia DiMond (Ed) , David Schmidt (Debbie) and Joanne Gillen (Larry); 4 grandchildren (and spouses) , Andrea Greway (Joe), Lisa Hughes (Michael), Page Gillen, and Adam Gillen (Katherine); and 4 great-grandchildren Adaline, Lorelei and Edmund Greway, and Anthony Hughes.
George was born in Philadelphia, PA on Dec 1, 1929, grew up in Franklinville, New Jersey and became a lifelong resident of Langhorne, PA after his 1952 marriage to Jane Epler Schmidt, who predeceased him in 2020.
George and Jane were high-school sweethearts and graduated from Clayton High School in 1948, where George was valedictorian and co-captain of his football team. George then attended Drexel University where he received his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1952 and 1956 respectively.
George spent most of his professional career at Strick Corporation in Fairless Hills, PA where he was promoted to Vice President of Engineering in 1971. He has 10 patents associated with his engineering work there, and retired after being with them for 55 years.
George was a loving husband and father, and he and Jane were active in the Langhorne United Methodist Church where he sang tenor in the choir for many years. George and Jane enjoyed traveling with their growing family – car trips to state and national parks were a constant in their lives. Once their family was grown, they enjoyed expanding their travels to international destinations. George and Jane were also active in the Surf City Yacht Club on Long Beach Island, NJ where they had a summer home. George was an accomplished sailor and raced a Lightning Class sailboat with the club. Sometimes his boat even won!
George had many hobbies and was a very accomplished woodworker and furniture maker. He was also an enthusiast gardener and painter. Many family members continue to enjoy the treasures that he created for them.
A private family celebration of life will be scheduled in the near future.
