Georges E Auchet

Georges Auchet of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on Saturday June 3rd, 2023.

He was one of eight children -  father Georges and mother Yvonne.  Born March 3rd, 1929, he enlisted in the Royal Army during WWII for service in the Middle East where he reached the rank of Sergeant. After demobilization, he became a distinguished teacher of French, English, Math and Geography at the Elementary level. He also taught typing to high school students. Georges was a nature lover, hiking the many mountains, river gorges, and beaches in Mauritius with his many friends and family - he loved social gatherings, especially dances which he organized quite often. In 1970, he traveled to England, France, and eventually the US for a new adventure and career change.

After immigrating to the US, he met and married his loving wife and best friend of over 50 years, Lucienne (Lilliane). Five years later (1976) he became a naturalized US citizen and filed the legal paperwork for his siblings to be reunited in the US - this simple act opened the door for hope and opportunity for his many family members and he will forever be remembered for that.

Georges’ new career was in the insurance industry specializing in accounting, budgeting, and costing - he studied and became a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI). He retired from the Insurance industry after 25 years and worked for the IRS for over 12 years. He was a self-reliant, informed, fun-loving person, as well as a steadfast friend in need. His focus on discipline and physical fitness led him to complete the JFK 50-mile run (America's oldest ultra marathon) annually for 20 straight years - he made it to the exclusive 1,000 miler club. He also ran or walked as part of his daily exercise regimen. Georges was an avid traveller and he visited numerous countries in all continents - he loved to drive and toured all 50 States in the US and much of Canada.

A staunch believer in education, he was a valuable resource to his nieces and nephews during their formative years.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Micheline, May, Ghislaine, and Alix - and his brother Yves. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucienne (Lilliane), his two remaining siblings, Francine and Serge and extended family all over the world. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
