Gerald "Jerry" Blaney

Gerald H. (Jerry) Blaney, of Philadelphia, passed away this Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Washington Township, New Jersey; at the age of 86, following a seven-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. A longtime Philadelphia resident, he was born on November 8th, 1935 to Vincent and Florence “Dolly” (née Howe) Blaney. Mr. Blaney worked for many years as a computer engineer for Unisys Corporation, and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 as a member of the Strategic Air Command. He was a proud member of the North Catholic High School Class of 1953. Throughout his life, he was known for his quiet, unassuming presence, abundant generosity, keen compassion and dry wit. In 1960, he married his childhood sweetheart, Rose, whom he met at the local roller rink at the tender age of thirteen. They were each other’s constant companion, steadfast travel partner and perfect match. Together, they were the captain and first mate of The Fascination, their beloved sailboat, for many years. When not sailing, Mr. Blaney could usually be found reading from his extensive book collection in his much-loved recliner, or out on the links at any local course. He was also well-known as an avid history buff and cinephile.

Mr. Blaney is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Rose (née Holt) Blaney, of Philadelphia, and five children: Roseann McAlister (Steven), Gerald Blaney (Tracey), Michael Blaney (Annette), Kathleen Murphy (Bill), and Dianne West (Christopher). He is also survived by his fifteen adoring grandchildren, one great grandchild, and his loving siblings: William Blaney, Michael Blaney, Patricia McShain, Joseph Blaney (Judith), and Catherine Cogan (John). He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a great many friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 between the hours of 6:00pm and 9:00pm, at the Delaware Valley Crematorium, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia PA 19136.
