Gertrude V. Weidner

Our beloved Gertrude “Gert” Weidner, 93, of Roxborough, Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 11,2022.

Gert was born October 12, 1929 in Rockledge, PA to John and Theresa Calvin .  Gert, also known as Sis or Aunt Sis to the large Calvin Clan, was a loving and devoted wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great great Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.  She was one of six children, Brothers: Jack, Sonny and Buck and two sisters, Gail Stevens and Marge Ostenrider.  She was born into a large, loving, close knit family, full of spouses and cousins  that would spend countless vacations, laughter, holidays, dancing, upstate mountain and shore trips together throughout their lives.

She started working at Tastycake in Philadelphia at age sixteen and was introduced to the love of her life, Charlie “Jip” Weidner, by his sisters, Dolly and Jean.  She married Jip and moved to a studio apartment on Broad Street in Philadelphia where they walked to swing dances and enjoyed big band music, sparking off her love of Betty Boop collectables and lively dance and oldies music that had always filled the Weidner household and Calvin get togethers.

She loved spending time and getting into humorous and comic shenanigans with her sister, Marge and her lifelong best friend of sixty five years, Evie Loughran.  The lifelong fun and laughs extended down to the Jersey shore, where her Mother,  Theresa “Nanny”  Calvin had a summer place for the family.  She was an avid housecleaner, as her nickname “White Glove” was given by her son, Chuck Weidner.   She was an enthusiastic cake baker, lasagna, meatball maker and enjoyed dinners with her large extended family and friends. She traveled frequently to see family, children and grandchildren in upstate Pennsylvania, California and Colorado. She had a lifelong crush on Tom Selleck and made everyone around her laugh.  She was passionate about good humor and entertaining.  She was very active, full of energy, worked well into her eighties, was witty and had more energy than her own children.

She is survived by her sister, Marge Ostenrider of Bensalem, PA,  sister-in-law, Jean Angel,  four children; daughter Nance Follis of Millerton, PA, son and daughter in-law Chuck and Patty Weidner of San Jose California, daughter, Jean Kern of Plymouth Meeting, PA., daughter and son-in-law Sue and Dan Cudahy of Eagle, Colorado.  Six Grandchildren;  Joy Childs, Michelle Perry, Amy Hernandez, Charles Weidner Jr., Niki Costa and Greg Costa.  Fifteen greatgrandchildren; Jesse Newberry, Juan, Amado, Amistad, Asriel Hernandez, Ashley, Tyler Weidner, Edmund, Sebastian, Tristan, Teagan Perry, Brooke, Abigail, Caitlin Timer, Dylan Costa.  Four great great grandchildren;Colton, Cameron and Copper Newberry and Rosalia Hernandez.
