John “Jack” Buchanan – age 96, of Ocean City, NJ, previously from Swarthmore, PA died peacefully on June 3, 2023.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nan Buchanan, and was the devoted father of Shawn (predeceased), Karen Lynch, Susan (John), Jim, daughter-in-law Pat Buchanan, and his sister-in-law Kay Buchanan.
He loved being Pop-Pop to Philip and Patrick Lynch, Shawn and Chuck (Ashley) Buchanan, Kyle, Ryan, Kelly McCrossan, and Erin Buchanan.
Jack was predeceased by his devoted parents Robert and Catherine (Kelly) Buchanan and his siblings Bob, Catherine, Phyllis, Madeline, Jean, Ed, and Terry. Jack also had a wonderful extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends whom he loved.
Born and raised in West Philadelphia, he graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia, PA, and worked in Logistics for over 40 years. Jack also served as a Proud Marine during World War II.
Jack married T. Nanette “Nan”(Leone) in 1958 and they raised their family in Ridley Township Swarthmore, PA where they lived for over 42 years.
In 1971, Jack and Nan purchased their beloved summer home in Ocean City NJ. In 2001, they decided to move to Ocean City home full-time.
Jack was so proud of his children and 8 grandchildren. He loved cooking his famous weekly Sunday breakfast for them and their friends every summer, sharing a bowl of ice cream or brownie and milk with them, teaching them how to fish, where to find minnows, and how to drive and dock a boat. He also loved sharing family history, and in the last few years sharing Padre Island stories with them.
A celebration of Jack’s life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. at The Church of the Resurrection/Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ 08223.
Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 8:00 am to 9:00 a.m. Interment is private. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Wounded Warrior Project https:/Support.woundedwarriorproject.org
