It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jimmy Bofinger, a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather and dedicated public servant. James “Jimmy” Thomas Bofinger, passed away peacefully at his home on September 19th 2024 at the age of 80.
Born on May 17th, 1944 in Philadelphia, the son of Fredrick and Mary Regina (nee Lange) Bofinger and brother of the late Alfred Bofinger and the late Mae Burger. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 30+ years, Joan Bofinger. He was the proud father of James Eric Bofinger (Anisha), Marc Evan Bofinger (Amy). Scott Everett Bofinger (Heather), and Katie Curry Gardler (Chris). A cherished ‘pop’ to Avery, Michael, Allie, Jeremy, Isabella, Emerson, Mackenzie, Tommy, Grace, and Matty.
Jimmy was a devoted, life-long, public servant, making it his mission to keep everyone around him safe. He dedicated 25 years of his life as a Philadelphia firefighter, a proud member of Engine 55. After retirement, he continued serving his community as a security guard at Holy Redeemer Hospital, where he left a lasting impression. A passionate member of the Bridesburg community, Jimmy played a significant role in the Bridesburg Father’s Club and was heavily involved with the Bridesburg Cougars, coaching young athletes.
Jimmy is remembered not only for his heroic efforts but also for his warm heart, generous spirit, and countless jokes and laughs. For all that knew him, you were lucky enough to experience and appreciate his playfulness and sense of humor. He had the ability to brighten up every room and lighten the mood in any circumstance.
Please join the Bofinger family on Saturday September 28, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136 for a gathering of remembrance in honoring and celebrating Jimmy's life. A life celebration service and family sharing for him will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by time for refreshments and food. His family will be accessible to receive the loving comfort of your condolences, remembrance, and support throughout the evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Philadelphia Firefighter Local 22 Widows Fund, reflecting Jimmy’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
