James Lee Jones, Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jimmy) Lee Jones, Jr. Jimmy Jones, a true outdoorsman and beloved friend to many. Jimmy passed away peacefully at his home in St. David’s on January 7, 2025.

Jimmy was born on April 12th, 1956 to Jane Ann Jones and James Lee Jones, Sr. of Bala Cynwyd, PA. After graduating from Harriton High School (class of 1974), he attended New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University). Soon, Jimmy’s career offered endless opportunities for two of his favorite pastimes, traveling and making new friends. His work in quality control for J.G. Hook took him to places like India and the United Arab Emirates, and later, his work in vehicle sales sent him traveling throughout the United States. Ultimately, Jimmy dedicated his career to his passion for lifted trucks, working as a salesperson for SCA/ Black Widow Trucks. His knowledge and enthusiasm made him a favorite among customers and dealers, who more often than not became great friends. His personality was friendly and fun-loving and his laugh, was contagious.

He found peace and solace in the mountains, where he spent countless hours hunting. A skilled sportsman, Jimmy was a member of the Portable Rod and Gun Club in Sterling Run, PA., Ever since his father would bring him to the camp as a child, Jimmy enjoyed the camaraderie there, and throughout his life he continued to share his love of the outdoors with friends and family. His adventurous spirit extended beyond the mountains to the vast ocean. An avid angler, Jimmy relished the thrill of deep-sea fishing, enthusiastically pursuing stripers, tuna, and marlin. He was at home 100 miles offshore as he was at the top of a mountain.

When not immersed in nature, Jimmy could be found cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He was a loyal fan, always ready to attend a game, whether at home in Philadelphia or traveling to away stadiums, like the Superdome in New Orleans. He also loved musicals and music concerts and was known to gift tickets to friends and family. Jimmy was a true and loyal friend and always eager to help in any way he could. His generosity touched so many people.

Jimmy is survived by his sister, Barbara Gabriel; niece, Tara Spitzen; nephews, Joshua and Daniel Spitzen; cousins (Laurie Sue and Wayne Steele, Tom and Marion Jones, Beth and Andy McSherry and their familes will also be greatly missed by his best friends, Craig Steerman and John Broderick, and his many other dear friends, whom he considered family.

Jimmy’s love of humor, adventure, and a little bit of mischief meant that he was never short on outrageous stories. He brought tears of laughter and sometimes heart palpitations to friends as he detailed the antics and accidents he encountered. But somehow, even when all odds seemed against it, he’d land on his feet. Everyone who knew him has their own Jimmy Jones stories to share as well. We hope they will do so on March 23, 2025, noon at La Collina, 37 Ashland Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, where friends and family will gather to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Nature Conservancy of Pennsylvania, 555 E. North Lane, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
