Powell- Lawrence (Larry) William Sr. age 91, of Philadelphia, PA. Passed away on October 1, 2017 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Lawrence was a U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served his country during WWII. He earned a Victory Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and Army occupation medal (In Germany).
A beloved husband, father, Uncle, Cousin, brother, Poppop, Little Poppop, great Poppop and Friend. A part of our hearts has died along with him. Forever we will miss and love him. He has touched the hearts of many. Everyone that met him loved him, and always said what a great guy he was. He fought a long and tough battle till his very last breath. One of the strongest men we know. He loved his family more than anything but did enjoy going to the Race Track & Turf Club to watch his horses.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Madeline (Dolly) Powell, Daughter Lorraine Wexler, mother Ella White Powell, 3 Sisters, and 8 Brothers. He is survived by his children Kathleen Ginchereau (Leonard Sr), Lawrence (Larry) Powell Jr (Jackie), and Theresa Laessig (Lee), 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great- grandchildren.
Please join the Powell family after 6:00 pm Thursday, October 5th at Delaware Valley Cremation Center 7350 State Road Philadelphia, PA 19136 for a gathering of remembrance in honoring and celebrating Lawrence’s life. The memorial tribute service will begin promptly at 7:00 with time for refreshments and fellowship immediately afterwards, from around 7:30 until 9:00 pm, where Lawrence’s family will be accessible to receive the loving comfort of your condolences, remembrances and support.
