Linda Sammin passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 30th, 2022 after a long battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Ann Elizabeth Nevins on November 9, 1953 in Brattleboro, VT to Patricia Nevins. She was adopted shortly after and raised as Linda Anne Schmitt in Carle Place, NY. She attended the Cherry Lane School and graduated from Carle Place High School in 1971. She attended Temple University where she met her best friend, Betty Anne Kelly, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism.
In 1977, Betty Anne introduced her to a handsome bartender named Michael Sammin, and after a moment of hesitation, she decided to date him and they eventually married on April 1st, 1978.
Mike and Linda settled in northeast Philadelphia and raised two children, Kyle and Jessica. Linda built a career as a secretary at the JH Brown School in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia, where she adored her role as a second mother to so many children for over 25 years.
She loved the Phillies, Harry Chapin, and the color green.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Michael Sammin; dear son Kyle Sammin and his wife Julia; her devoted daughter Jessica Liedtke and her husband Kris (Kris Pa to his East Coast family); treasured grandchildren Ainsley Patricia Liedtke, Paige Brigid Dail Sammin, Colton Daniel Liedtke, and Michael David Richie Sammin; sisters Ellen Johnson, Kate Los, Theresa Estey, and Julie Leonard; brother Jamie Courtot, best friend Betty Kelly, as well as many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by the woman who gave her life, Patricia Nevins Courtot; and dear friends Helen Jones and Patricia McGinley.
In Linda’s memory, please root for the Phillies and think of Harry Chapin’s words: “Oh, if a man tried to take his time on Earth and prove before he died what one man's life could be worth, I wonder what would happen to this world.”
Please join the Sammin family after 6:00 pm Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 at Delaware Valley Cremation Center, 7350 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136 for a gathering of remembrance in honoring and celebrating Linda’s life.
