Margaro “Mike” Torres, age 94, passed away peacefully at home in his bed on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mike was a man whose personality boomed as loud as his voice. Always up for a good laugh, he had a heart just as big as his presence. Known for his strength, humor, and incredible work ethic, Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and even great-great-grandfather who loved his family above all else.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Militon and Andrea Torres, Mike was one of thirteen children and the last of his siblings to be called home. He often shared stories of his time on the island and the lessons learned while working alongside his father — memories he held dear throughout his life.
For over 30 years, Mike worked at Nu-Look Carwash, where he became the face of the business and made countless lifelong friends. In his former neighborhood of 17th and Mount Vernon, he was known as the “grandfather of the block” — always looking out for everyone and flexing his “muscles” for the kids who adored him.
Mike loved all things boxing and wrestling and could call the winner of almost any match. He enjoyed dancing, going out to eat, and listening to Johnny Cash. His booming laugh, warm hugs, and endless stories will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving spouse /wife of 57 years, Anna Marie, and his children, Edward Torres, Maria Lisa Torres, Jose Torres, Raymond Santiago (Mary Ann Leahy), and Sharon Santiago. He was preceded in death by his son, Hector Luis . Mike also leaves behind many grandchildren, including Dominique Torres (Steven Torres), Raymond Santiago Jr. (Celeste Santiago), Christiana Santiago, Gabriel Santiago, Haydeeliz “Lissy” Hopkins (Wilbert Hopkins), Jeannette Rodriguez (Luis Quintero), and many others who loved him deeply — as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who were blessed to call him Pop.
Mike will forever be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the laughter he sparked in every room, and the strength that carried his family through generations. He was the heart of his family — the best Pop anyone could ever hope for. His memory will live on in every story told, every song played, and every moment shared by those who loved him most.
It’s not goodbye, Pop… it’s see you soon.
