Mark D. Elinich, 68, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 21. Mark was born in Philadelphia to Joseph and Regina Jackson Elinich on September 6, 1957 and spent his childhood in Bensalem before moving to the Holmesburg community where he lived throughout his adult life.

He is predeceased by his parents, first wife Lisa Smith Elinich, and nephew Joseph Elinich.

Mark is survived by his wife, Halyna Sydorak Elinich, stepson Rostyslav Sydorak (Ann), stepdaughter Maria (Ivan) along with their daughter Michelle, and mother-in-law Hanna.

He is also survived by his siblings Karen, Brian, William (Joann), Sister Regina, and Joseph (Sharon) as well as his niece Melissa (Mark) Brennan and aunt Beatrice Prince. An extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends will also treasure his memory.

Mark graduated from Bensalem High School and Bucks County Technical High School in 1975. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country proudly. Following his service, he held many jobs throughout his life, ultimately advancing to serve as a federal police officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from which he retired.

Mark had many hobbies over the years including studying military history, building model airplanes and cars, attending airshows and aviation history displays, riding motorcycles and bicycles, skydiving, and wandering flea markets in search of treasures. He also loved cats, always having at least two at home with him while also contributing to support local shelters for strays.

Most of all, however, Mark will be remembered as a truly kind and compassionate soul who had an easygoing, down-to-earth way about him. He had a great sense of humor, connected easily with people, and was always ready and able to strike up a conversation about nearly any topic. He will be deeply missed by so many.

A tribute to Mark will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery (830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940) on Friday, August 14, 2026. Attendees should please arrive at 9:45AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
