Matthew "Matty" Lazar

Matthew “Matty” Lazar, 39, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 27, 2026. He was born on February 19, 1987, in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, to Philip and Janet Lazar.

Matty was a devoted Philadelphia sports fanatic who loved dogs, music, writing, and laughs. Above all, he loved helping others, especially those in need. Although Matt faced struggles during his life, they never defined the whole of who he was. We remember his kindness, his sense of humor, and the love we shared with him. Matt mattered. He will be dearly missed. He is now with his beloved father, Philip Penston Lazar, in heaven.

Matt is survived by his mother, Janet; brothers, Philip, Nicholas, and Stephen; his sisters, Kathleen Feeney and Alison; his brother-in-law, Brian; his sisters-in-law, Mary and Ama; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Fonzi, Jack, Emily, Bridget, Erica, Aleah (his godchild), Nicholas, and Colin.

We take comfort in the words of Jesus: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.

Family and friends are invited to honor Matthew’s life on November 2, 2026, at Saint Cecilia’s Church, at 535 Rhawn Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by Mass from 11:00 am to noon. A luncheon will follow.
