Michael Angelo DeTorro Sr., of the Tacony section of Philadelphia, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on August 19, 2026, at the age of 60.
Born on November 12, 1965, Michael was the son of the late Francis DeTorro Sr. and Janet Pickard. He was also preceded in death by his beloved sister, Rosemarie McDonnell (Philip).
Michael was a skilled automobile mechanic who had a natural ability to understand how things worked and was always willing to lend his knowledge and a helping hand to those who needed it. Outside of work, he loved watching baseball and football and was a devoted Philadelphia sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles.
Those who knew Michael will also remember his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make the people around him laugh.
Above everything else in Michael's life, however, was his son, Michael DeTorro Jr.
Being a father was Michael's greatest joy. He raised his son with tremendous love and pride, and anyone who spent time with Michael knew just how much Michael Jr. meant to him. His son was rarely far from his thoughts or conversation. Michael was especially proud when Michael Jr. became a firefighter for the City of Philadelphia-an accomplishment he spoke about with immense pride. To Michael, there was simply no greater achievement than watching his son grow into the man he became.
His son was his pride and joy, and truly the center of his world.
Michael is survived by his beloved son, Michael DeTorro Jr.; his siblings, Kathleen Sciarrone (Daniel) and Francis DeTorro Jr. (Sharon); and his nieces and nephews, Jacquelyne McDonnell, Maria Santiago, Gina Sciarrone, Dominic DeTorro, and Vincent DeTorro. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were made brighter by his humor, friendship, and presence.
Michael will be remembered as a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend. His humor will be missed, his stories will be remembered, and the enormous pride and love he had for his son will remain one of the greatest parts of his legacy.
Above all, his legacy lives on through the son he loved beyond measure and was so incredibly proud to call his own.
