With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael F. Freed on February 22, 2026. Michael, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this world at the age of 58, with his devoted daughter by his side. Born on October 9, 1967, in Philadelphia, PA, Michael lived a life full of warmth and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael was the cherished son of the late Ralph Freed and Rebecca Aubrey, whose love and guidance shaped his compassionate nature. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carolyn Freed, with whom he shared a deep and abiding love. They married on May 26, 2009, in Philadelphia, PA, beginning a journey together that was marked by joy, laughter, and an unbreakable bond.
Michael is survived by his loving children, daughter Aimee Danner of Hagerstown, MD, and son Jeffrey Danner of Frederick, MD, who were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind his supportive sister, Patty Riley, and her spouse Tom Hysore, as well as his dear brother, Robert Freed, and his wife Michelle Freed. Michael was a devoted uncle to his niece, Devon Tushinski, and her husband Tristan. His legacy lives on in his five grandchildren: Skyler Brashears-Danner and fiancé Clinton Stottlemyer of Smithsburg, MD, Thomas Brashears, Isabella Waite, Camden McAllister, and Madeleine McAllister, all of Hagerstown, MD. Though his journey on earth has ended, the love he shared with his family and friends will forever echo in their hearts.
For over two decades, Michael dedicated himself to his work in maintenance at the University of Pennsylvania. His commitment and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, but it was his incredible personality and humor that truly endeared him to everyone he met. Michael was a man of many passions. He found peace in the simple joys of life, whether he was casting a line while fishing with friends or cheering on his favorite football team. Above all, he treasured moments spent camping and creating memories with his children and grandchildren, who will forever remember his infectious laughter and boundless love.
Those who knew Michael will fondly remember his amazing and funny personality, his caring and loving nature, and the kindness that emanated from his huge heart. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word. To be in Michael's presence was to feel seen, heard, and appreciated for who you were.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on April 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Michael J Crescenz MOH Rising Sun VFW, located at Post 2819, 6850 Martins Mill Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19111. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man who brought so much joy and love into the world.
In the words of his family, "Sadly missed along life's way, quietly remembered every day... No longer in our life to share, but in our hearts, you're always there…" Michael may no longer walk among us, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace, knowing he is deeply loved and fondly remembered.
