Master Sergeant Michael T. Paranzino, 73, died on November 30th, 2021 at his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he also served with the 1215th Garrison Support Unit from Willow Grove, PA.

Msg. Paranzino was born on July 1st, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Michael D. and Irene “Rina” Paranzino. Michael was raised in South Philadelphia and graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1966. In 1968, he joined the Army, just before deployment to the Vietnam war. After returning home from the war in 1971, Michael continued with the United States Army Reserves for the next 26 years, before the second call to active duty in 1997 with the 1215th Garrison Support Unit for Operation Joint Guard (Bosnia). He was stationed at USAG Rheinland-Pfalz Kaiserslautern Military Community in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Msg. Paranzino was responsible for developing training plans to sustain individual soldiers’ skills. He assisted in developing logistical contingency plans for mobilization, interpreting regulations, and recommending changes to mobilization policies. After returning home from deployment in 1998, Msg. Paranzino retired from the Army/USAR.

Msg. Paranzino was an active member of the democratic party and served in various political stations over a 40-year period. Most recently, he served as a committeeman in the 58th ward (Somerton section of Philadelphia) for 20 years. He served on the polls for every election and was extremely passionate about empowering his constituents to have their voices heard.

A merchandiser for Pincus Brothers in Philadelphia from the 1970’s through the 1990’s, he retired in merchandising from the Marshall’s/TJMAXX distribution center.
Msg. Paranzino was a brave and loyal soldier, politician, loving father and grandfather, impeccable dresser, Phillies Sunday afternoon game companion, and most importantly- a kind man. He is survived by his son Christopher Paranzino; daughter, Lisa (Joseph) Hughes; grandchildren, Jack, Isabella, and Olivia Hughes. He is also survived by his sister Joann (Thomas) Chiarini; brother, John Paranzino; and niece Dana (Brian) Milleman; as well as great-niece, Celena and great-nephew, Anderson. Michael is also survived by his former spouse Dianne Barron.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the ceremony that will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on December 15th at 1:30 pm, prompt.

In lieu of flowers, please thank a veteran, get out and vote, be aware that people suffer from depression and PTSD and offer understanding and kindness to them, stop in and check on someone who is alone to see if they need help or just want to talk, and always make sure to check on those who are vulnerable and can be easily taken advantage of.
