Michael L. Satterthwaite affectionately known by many as “Big Mike” passed away peacefully on January 2, 2022. He was 84 years old. Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce (2013).
Loving and devoted father to Diane Hegele (Robert) and Barbara DeRenzis (Nick) as well as four beautiful granddaughters Kate, Sam, Deena and Angelina. (which he tried to pass down all of his automobile knowledge to over the years).
Mike graduated from Germantown Friends in Philadelphia. He was a self-taught/trained auto mechanic and owned two gas stations in the community in which he lived. Packard’s were his all-time favorite car, and he had several trophy winning Packard’s over the years. He was a member of numerous car clubs including the Packard Club and the Professional Car Society which included car owners with limos, hearses, flower cars, etc.
Mike served his community as a volunteer for over 25 years with the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company serving as captain of the Fire Police for many of those years. He also worked for Lower Moreland Township Public Works Department.
You always knew where you stood with “Big Mike”. He would give you the shirt off his back after he fixed your car or offered to buy it from you. He was a true car guy in every sense of the word. He will be truly missed by all. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held in the early spring.
Donations in Mike’s memory made to the Montgomery County SPCA, https://montgomerycountyspca.org/donate/ would be greatly appreciated.
