Richard “Dick” Dinan, 85, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Manor in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 18, 1941, Dick graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in 1960. He began his career working for Western Union before becoming a milkman like his father and eventually working for over thirty years as a driver-salesman at Stroehmann Bakeries. After retiring in 1997, Dick wore many hats trying to keep busy and stay out of “trouble”. He was a school bus driver, a driver of foster children for Catholic Social Services, an auto parts delivery person, a custodian at Roman Catholic High School, and a sexton for Saint Jerome Church. In his spare-time he would taxi people to and from appointments and errands. Each of these retirement gigs yielded friendships and stories to share. Above all other jobs, the ones he treasured most were being a husband, dad, and grandpa.
Dick and his beloved wife Ann Marie shared a strong faith and served as Extraordinary Ministers at Saint Bernard and Saint Katherine of Siena churches. They enjoyed their retirement with their neighbors and the friends they made at the Senior Club; enjoying celebrations and outings throughout the year while waiting for the pool to open each summer. He shared his stories, faith, and belief in the healing power of prayer with everyone he met.
Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Ann Marie (nee Geiger). He is also survived by his four loving children and their spouses, Deborah (Chuck) Raymond, Richard (Marci), Mary Bernadette (Rodman) Holland, and Beth Ann (Paul) Marin; and his much adored granddaughter Kirsten Raymond (Nick Morrell). Dick was preceded in death by his two infant sons, Jude and Daniel.
Dick was the youngest of nine children and is survived by his sisters, Mary (William decd.) Kirsch, Dorothy (Edward decd.) Brown, sister-in-law, Patricia (wife of the late Gerald Dinan), and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen (Ervin), siblings and their spouses: Helen (Robert) Silva, John, James, Joseph (Emma), Margaret (Andrew) Wickline, and his brother-in-law James Geiger.
Dick had a kind and generous spirit. He loved his life and found beauty in its wonder as much as its imperfections. His smile and presence in a room was one that commanded attention, even if in a quiet and humble way. Over the course of his life, he prayed for and with the sick and their families. He was a faithful husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, son, cousin, neighbor, and friend who enjoyed connecting with others through stories of his life. He will forever be remembered for the twinkle in his eyes, sheepish grin, jokes, wisdom, and the reassuring peace and welcome of his handshake, hug, or kiss.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Dick’s life at Saint Katherine of Siena Church located at 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19114 on Friday, May 15, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Dick’s memory and legacy, his family encourages others to share an act of simple kindness with someone - a smile, handshake, laugh, prayer, donation.
