Robert "Bob" Joseph Bogus, a distinguished veteran, devoted husband, and loving father, passed away on March 5, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of courage, quiet honor, and unwavering service. He was 76 years old.
Born in Trenton, NJ on March 13, 1947, Bob was raised with a strong sense of duty and patriotism by his father, John F. Bogus, mother, Agnes Grochala, and brother, Johnny Bogus, all of whom predeceased him. His commitment to serving his country led him to join the United States Air Force after high school. During his years of service, Bob traveled to far-flung corners of the globe, but it was his service during the Vietnam War that would leave an indelible mark on his life. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bob returned home and embarked on the next chapter of his life, working in the Treasury Department for the state of New Jersey for his entire 40 year career. He married Janet Haigh, had three children, and together they all built a life filled with cherished memories.
In his leisure time, Bob enjoyed reading about history, quizzing (especially Jeopardy), bowling and pinochle. He had a love of the beach and ocean, and some of the family’s best memories were made on Long Beach Island, NJ, where they spent time every summer. Following retirement, Bob and Janet spent much time traveling. They enjoyed visiting their children when living abroad, taking trips with friends, and embarking on adventures on three continents.
Bob's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but his spirit will live on in the memories of friends and family. He is survived by his wife, his children, Kara, Cassie, and Adam, their partners, and five grandchildren along with a host of family members and friends, who will forever cherish his memory.
In honoring Bob's life and legacy, let us remember his service to his country and to his family. A good man, a quiet man. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
