Robert Thomas Burns was born on July 19, 1930, he passed away on March 15, 2024 at 93 years old.
Bob graduated from Cheltenham High School and went on to join the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He then married his bride, Dorthy Knapp of Elkins Park in 1952. Together, they had three children, Susan Land (VA), Robert Burns Jr. (PA) and Kathleen Murphy (PA). He raised his family in Glenside, PA and was very active in St. Luke’s parish. He coached the St. Luke’s baseball team to many victories. In addition to his involvement at St. Luke's, he volunteered with Meals and Wheels. In his free time, he enjoyed entertaining with three other Irishmen from the parish and later went on to sing in nursing homes. After 39 loyal years at Canada Dry, he spent his retirement split between Ocean City, New Jersey and Punta Gorda, Florida. He and his wife traveled often. They enjoyed traveling to Europe and South America. He enjoyed tennis well into his 80s and had a competitive spirit his whole life. He and Dorthy moved to Ann’s Choice in Warminster ten years ago where he focused his energy on being a caring and supportive husband.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dorthy Burns, seven grandchildren (who all thought they were his favorite), thirteen great grandchildren (whom he loved to make laugh), and many nieces and nephews, along with sister in law, Ellie Burns. A big thank you to the staff at Ann’s Choice and the hospice team who supported him in his final chapter.
