It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert A. Ward, our beloved brother, boyfriend, uncle, cousin, and all-around good-time guy to his friends and family.
Andy (aka CUZ) passed away early Sunday morning, September 28th, 2025, from a heart condition. Born in Philadelphia on May 14th, 1954, the son of, Robert Ward and Mary Louise McKinstry (nee Mooney). He is survived by sisters, Sharon E. Walsh, Jean Gail Andrews and Lisa Murphy (Paul); brother, Raymond Ward; partner, Diane Walton and her daughter, Erica Walton. As well as countless other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Andy was born and raised in Philly but at age 15 he set off to live with his father in Birmingham, Alabama. His time there was short-lived as he was sent back to Mom in Philly a year later where he graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1972. Later, he studied Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning and obtained his technician’s license. Andy worked in many professions along the way including roofing, general contracting where he had his own business, and as the youngest Project Manager for a reservoir re-lining company, traveling cross-country on his many assignments. Andy lived in Alabama and Philly for the most part, but in between he also spent time in some other states before settling back in Philly for the duration of his life in1997.
He was a larger-than-life character who lived life his way by pushing the envelope in all directions. He will be remembered and missed by so many as he left his imprint wherever he was.
Andy is remembered not only for his crazy antics but also for his warm heart, generous spirit, and his clever perspective, which was punctuated by countless jokes and laughs. For all who knew him, you were lucky enough to experience and appreciate his playfulness and sense of humor. He had the ability to brighten up every room and lighten the mood in any circumstance. It would not be an overstatement to say that most people who met Andy, even if only one time, were charmed by him and fondly remembered him forever.
