Sharon Elizabeth Lewis, age 59, passed away on July 28, 2017 at Vitas Hospice in Philadelphia.
Sharon was born in Berea, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, the youngest of three children of Patricia
Jean Hoverder Lewis and Martin Deming Lewis. When she was 5 years old the family moved to
the Montreal area, where she graduated from Lindsay Place High School in Pointe Claire.
After high school, Sharon returned to the United States to attend college at the University of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She earned a masters degree and taught English and computer
skills at a school for adults with disabilities in Philadelphia.
Sharon always enjoyed making music. She played the French horn in high school and in
community bands and orchestras, and fondly remembered performing one of Mozart’s horn
concertos with her high school band. In Philadelphia she also played the domra, a Russian folk
instrument, in a local balalaika orchestra.
Sharon loved daffodils, manatees, and most especially the artwork of her grandfather, “Grand
Martin.†She is survived by her sister Ruth Lewis of Gainesville, Florida.
A brief Committal Service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 12:00 noon at
University Lutheran Church, 3637 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
