Sophie J. Plocharski

Sophie Jane Plocharski, 87, of the Bridesburg neighborhood of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at home on December 22, 2019 surrounded by loved family and friends. Sophie was born on May 15, 1932 to Stefania and Konstanti Kolakowski in Philadelphia. She was the youngest of seven and standing matriarch of the family.

She wed her late husband, Edward Plocharski, in 1951 and raised two wonderful daughters while also caring for other members of the family. She was very proud of her Polish heritage and spent her life involved in her community and St. John Cantius Parish. She was an active member of St John’s Senior Society and The Rosary Society. She loved spending her days with family and her evenings watching the Phillies.

She is survived by loving daughters Carol (Eric) Schlect and Suzanne (John) Appenzeller, grandchildren John (Lauren), Chris (Haley), Michael, Patrick (David), Gregory (Sarah), Courtney (Matthew), and Melissa, and great-grandchildren John Thomas, Emma, Kora, Dean, and Finn. In addition to her immediate family, she was loved by her long-time companion Walter Drejerski and countless nieces and nephews whom she adored and loved.

Sophie has spent years donating to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and has asked for us to continue donations in her honor in lieu of flowers or other gifts.

There will be a viewing held at St. John Cantius Parish church from 9-10:30AM Saturday December 28, 2019 for those who wish to pay their final respects followed by mass at 10:30AM.

Please note: The address of the parish is 4415 Almond Street Philadelphia, PA 19137; however, the entrance of the church is located on the 4400 block of Thompson st.
