Thomas “Tom” P. Briola, loving husband and father, passed away in his residence during the morning hours of August 20th of 2023. He is survived by his caring wife, Cynthia, his adored children, Rita, Frank, Cara, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Catherine; as well as his beloved eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was a deeply devoted family man who cherished each moment spent with his loved ones.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 10, 1935, Tom grew up in the neighborhood of Bensonhurst where he gained many friends and cherished memories. Later into his childhood, Tom was taken in by his adoptive parents Francis & Willamina “Rita” Briola. Tom was known for his positive attitude towards life and his ability to make friends wherever he went. Regardless of the hardships he faced, Tom met adversity with open arms and optimism. As a teenager, he enlisted in the United States Army where he gained knowledge and experience to pass down to his children and grandchildren.
After the Army, Tom worked as a Food & Beverage Manager of the Plaza Hotel, where he dedicated himself to the advancement of his career in the industry, then onto the St. Regis Hotel in NYC for several years. This gained him the ability to become social and build relationships with staff and guests, which he thoroughly enjoyed throughout his career. He is predeceased by his best friend of 40 years, Douglas R. Paschall, whom Tom met during one of his many stints as a salesman.
Most who knew Tom remember him for his gleeful smile and laughter. His family and those close to him could not forget his enjoyment of music by Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond, as well as his love for the film, “The Godfather.” Despite spending the latter half of his life in Philadelphia, Tom could not give up his love for the New York Yankees and Giants. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Tom felt great pride in participating within his community. Tom was a truly unique and kind soul, full of many interesting stories and lessons on life. He will be greatly missed by all who know and love him.
Family and friends are invited to the memorial service which will be held the 28th of August, 2023 at St. Christopher’s Church; 13301 Proctor Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19116, starting at 9:30 AM. Mass will be held at 11AM.
