Vicky Newton passed away after she was unexpectedly hospitalized after a brief battle with a very aggressive cancer.
Vicky was generous, kind, and compassionate. Vicky made friends easily and always had a gift for bringing people together. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor and was always ready to help friends in whatever way she could. As a young girl, you would always find Vicky in the kitchen with her mother and Aunt Jen who taught her how to cook, bake, and make special dishes like pierogis and galumpkis.
Vicky was a great cook, and she loved nothing more than to feed her family and friends. She especially loved the holidays and making Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. When she was younger, Vicky loved doing cross-stitch, ceramics, and playing pool and video games down at the campground. Another favorite summer pastime was fighting with her sister Wanda over yard work and nearly anything else that you can imagine.
Vicky became a librarian and worked at several libraries at Temple University before moving on to become the Director of the Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing Library. As a librarian, Vicky impacted the lives of many students who went on to become architects, engineers, physicists, musicians, doctors, and nurses. Not only did she help them with their papers and research, Vicky also listened, counseled, supported and encouraged them to keep going and never give up.
Vicky loved getting her nails done, shopping, traveling, going to restaurants and casinos, reading, going to the beach and looking out at the ocean. Above all else, Vicky loved her family, friends and cats. Animals and children loved Vicky and were drawn to her as she was to them.
Vicky’s family and friends are in shock and brokenhearted over her sudden and rapid decline after only being diagnosed recently. This rare cancer usually goes undiagnosed until it’s too far advanced for a curative treatment.
