Walter Mackuse

WALTER MACKUSE passed away from complications of COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 29th. He was 90 years old. Walt was the beloved father of Donna Marie, DO, Christopher, and Gregg (Colleen). He was the adored Pop-Pop of Jack, Jillian and Jamee. He was a cherished friend of Frank and Teri Lawson and their children, Michael and Amanda. He is also survived by his sister Rosella Burak. He was predeceased by his treasured life-long friend Rita Higgins, and his brothers Joseph, Alexander and Henry.
Walt was born on February 20, 1930 in York, Pennsylvania and later moved with his family to the Spring Garden neighborhood of North Philadelphia. He lived across the street from and attended Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic School. He graduated from Roman Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and through his work at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. He moved to Northeast Philadelphia where he raised his family and lived for the remainder of his life. Walt was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports and spent many memorable nights with his son, Gregg, at the old Spectrum watching the Sixers play. Walt was at his happiest when sharing visits with his close friends, children, and grandchildren. He was a skilled short order cook and they have fond memories of enjoying Sunday morning breakfasts of potato pancakes in his kitchen. Walt will be remembered by his family and friends, always, for the sweet, kind and humble man he was during his lifetime.
